04 · The workshop

Two watchmakers, one bench, a few hundred watches a year.

Halden is a two-person workshop in Biel, Switzerland. Every watch that leaves it has been assembled there by hand: the hand-wound movement fitted, the sapphire crystal set, the strap cut from saddle leather.

We keep the numbers small on purpose. A few hundred watches a year is what two people can make without hurrying, and a watch you wind every morning should never feel hurried.

06 · Notes on leather

Saddle leather starts out firm. Give it a season.

Our straps are cut from saddle leather because it is made to be handled: dense and stiff at first, then softer where it bends around your wrist and darker where it touches you. The 20 mm strap changes in seconds on quick-release pins.
