Flux & Stilt

Flux & Stilt is a two room studio on a side street in Paducah, Kentucky, run by Delphine Achterberg, who spent fourteen years layering porcelain onto crowns in a dental lab before she fired her first piece of glass. She carves the petals of each brooch into a thick copper blank with a graver, packs the recesses with ground violet and yellow glass, fires it five times in a small kiln on a steel stilt so the back never touches the shelf, then stones the surface flat so the copper lines shine.
