Gnomon & Lathe

Gnomon & Lathe is a converted carport workshop in Socorro, New Mexico, run by Ines Calderón, who taught eighth grade earth science for nineteen years and kept watching students nod at a diagram of the seasons without believing it. She cuts the gears on a bench lathe from brass bar, turns the base from local walnut, and sets the earth on its true 23.4 degree tilt so a child can crank the year around a brass sun and see the light change sides.
