Dock Line Scratching Post

Mackerel & Mast

Mackerel & Mast is a two person workshop on the town wharf in Stonington, Maine, run by Dell and her husband Corwin, a retired lobsterman. They buy worn dock line and mooring rope from the local boatyard, wash it, and wrap it by hand around spruce posts cut in the next shed over. A post takes about forty minutes to wrap, and the rope is sold by the foot, never by the pound, because that is how Corwin has always bought it.
