Quillback Balm Works

Quillback Balm Works is a skincare kitchen behind a marine supply store on the Ilwaco waterfront in Washington. A former deckhand runs it with her brother, who handles the infusions. Calendula flowers soak in sunflower oil for six weeks in glass jars on a south window, then the oil is strained, warmed with local beeswax and poured into steel tins by hand. They pour about two hundred tins on a Tuesday and label them on Wednesday.
