Tama & Sarado

Tama & Sarado is a two lathe shop in a former bike garage in Nelson, British Columbia, run by Mirela Ostrander, who planted trees for nine summers and picked up kendama in the bunkhouse. She turns each handle and cup from local hard maple, drills the ball from beech, sands it smooth, then sprays it with six thin coats of cobalt blue lacquer that stays slightly tacky so the ball sticks on the spike instead of sliding off.
