The brief this store was built from

Pell & Filament is a two person workshop in a former net loft in Astoria, Oregon, run by Teo Marsh, who wired fishing boats for eleven years, and his sister Ada. They make one cordless table lamp. Each shade starts as a flat aluminium disc that Teo spins into a dome on a metal lathe, then it is anodized violet in a tank behind the shop. The battery is a standard cell held in by four screws, so when it wears out you swap it instead of throwing the lamp away.

Product
Net Loft Lamp, $168
About it
A cordless table lamp with a hand spun aluminium shade anodized deep violet and a warm amber light with three brightness steps. It charges over USB C and the battery inside can be replaced with a screwdriver.
Brand facts
Every shade is spun by hand from a flat aluminium disc on a metal lathe in the workshop. The battery is a standard replaceable cell behind four screws, and the shop sells the spare. One charge over USB C runs the lamp about forty hours on its lowest of three brightness steps.
Style
Fashion Forward. Fashion-forward — dual-font heading, sharp dark buttons

Who this theme is for

A small hardware maker that sells one or two finished devices rather than a catalog of parts: a lamp workshop, a clock maker, a builder of one speaker or one charger. The Fashion Forward layout leads with a large heading in two typefaces and sharp dark buttons, which gives a single object the confidence of a launch page instead of the clutter of an electronics warehouse. It suits shops with one hero product and a few spares or accessories.

What was decided in the brief

The style is Fashion Forward on its violet variant. The lamp shade is anodized violet and the light it gives is amber, so the palette takes the shade for the primary colour and the light for the yellow accent, and the store looks like the product switched on. The brand facts lead with the replaceable battery and the charge time because those are the two worries a buyer has about any cordless device, and the hand spun shade comes first only because it is what makes this lamp different from a cheaper one.

What is in the ZIP

  • A single-product homepage: hero, trust strip, benefits, how-to-use or specs, reviews, final call to action.
  • The whole store shell: product, collection, cart, search and 404 templates, header, footer, announcement bar.
  • Valid Shopify 2.0 sections with schema, so every line of text is editable in the Shopify editor.
  • The photos you see in the preview, ready to swap for your own.

Questions

Is this Shopify theme really free?
Yes. You download a complete Shopify 2.0 theme ZIP and no account is needed. In your Shopify admin go to Online Store, then Themes, then Add theme, then Upload zip file.
I sell one main product and its spare parts. Does the layout handle that?
Yes. The home page is built around one featured product, and the spare parts can live in their own collection, so a buyer sees the lamp first and finds the spare battery one click away.
Where do I put battery and charging specs?
In the product description. Shopify product descriptions accept headings and lists, so charge time, battery type and brightness steps can each go on their own line under the price.
